Ophelia, daughter to the Danish Royal Advisor, has been trying to escape from Elsinore castle since childhood. With her father determined to keep her locked in her room, (and laying a lifelong guilt-trip on her about the death of her mother), Ophelia has literally become a "Girl in a Box," a prisoner of convention, and a slave to the whims of those around her.
Her only salvation is her long-planned escape to London, but that thin ray of hope is growing more slender every day, now that the newly-wed Queen Gertrude is practically at war with England. Ophelia must escalate her plans from escape to survival, for Gertrude knows a little too much about Ophelia's true origins, and the control-freak queen is determined to keep the young girl from finding out the truth, no matter what the cost...
